Delaware City – The Delaware Military Heritage and Education Foundation is hosting Military
Heritage Day on 24 September, Ft. Dupont, Delaware City. This family friendly, free event has a
Civil War theme; it includes a Massing of the Colors, where the American flag is recognized and
honored by a pass-in-review. There will also be Civil War battle formations and demonstrations, a
Yankee and Rebel tent city,  a play about two Civil War Soldiers, imprisoned at Pea Patch Island,
and a big decision they face, a period hospital display and a Victorian dance open to the public.
Other activities include a car cruise and military book and tag sale, an opportunity to have sepia
photograph taken and the chance to visit the museum. After the dance, the Civil Air Patrol will
conduct a flag retirement of any torn and tattered American flags collected during the day.
The public is welcome after 9:30 a.m. If you are planning on attending, make plans to enter from
the south, over the Reedy Point Bridge, as the bridge over the small Delaware City Canal will likely
be closed for repairs.
